Tess-Masters-The-Blender-Girl

Tess Masters—aka, The Blender Girl— has become known for her healthy plant-based recipes that focus on blending. She follows a diet that is high in raw foods – but not exclusively raw – and her recipes reflect this approach.

She has recently released her debut cookbook –The Blender Girl: Super-Easy, Super-Healthy Meals, Snacks, Desserts, and Drinks–100 Gluten-Free, Vegan Recipes!.

Love Your Blender

The book starts out with advice and guidance to help you choose the best blender to suit your needs, budget and personality!

Like myself, she highly recommends purchasing a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix or Blendtec. These blenders cost around $400 but should be viewed as a long-term investment in your health.

Some advantages of high-speed blenders are:

  • They create a much smoother texture for your blended drinks, puddings and soups.
  • Provides greater nutrition by breaking down difficult-t0-digest foods such as leafy greens.
  • Gives you the ability to grind nuts and seeds and make raw ice cream.
  • Don’t require the addition of water to facilitate blending.
  • Can last for years without needing to be replaced.

Tess acknowledges that not everyone is ready to make such an investment. If you only want to whip up an occasional smoothie then a basic blender will do just fine.

However a high-speed blender offers so much more versatility and will allow you to create a greater variety of healthy blender recipes.

Healthy Blender Recipes

The majority of the book comprises a collection of plant-based offerings that center around blending. It includes recipes for green smoothies, fruit shakes, nut milks, appetizers and dips, salads, soups, mains and desserts.

There is of course an emphasis on blending and in most cases a regular blender will do the job. There are just a few recipes that require a food processor, high-speed blender or dehydrator.

You can also search the index to find recipes that are:

  • Raw
  • Alkalizing
  • Nut-free
  • Probiotic rich
  • Properly combined (use food combining principles)
  • Soy free
  • Sugar free

More Than Just Smoothies

You can expect to find recipes for smoothies, soups and dips in a blender cookbook. However Tess delivers a versatile assortment of plant-based recipes that incorporate the use of blending.

Some of the delicious recipes included in the book are:

  • Fresh Spring Rolls with Orange-Almond Sauce
  • Gluten-free Pad Thai
  • Live Lasagna Stacks
  • Nut-free Alkaline Tomato Kale Chips
  • Raw Chocolate Orange Torte
  • Mint-Chip Ice Cream

One of the things I appreciate about these recipes is their simplicity and adaptability. You can easily adjust them to suit your personal tastes with an extra squeeze of this or a handful of that – or you can leave an ingredient out altogether. Blender recipes tend to be very forgiving so you can’t really mess them up.

Healthy Recipes that Taste Great

The book also discusses the health benefits of soaking, sprouting, dehydrating, food combining and eating raw, alkaline foods. All of this is valuable information for anyone embarking on a plant-based diet as part of an effort to become healthier.

But you don’t need to be a health enthusiast to enjoy these recipes. This cookbook offers an approachable introduction to a healthy way of eating that will appeal to the entire family.

You can simply begin to experiment with blending and experience for yourself the fresh and vibrant energy that comes with a diet that emphasizes raw and plant-based foods.
