When humans first appeared on the face of the earth, they were primarily vegetarians. God had made them in such a way that despite having teeth, they could not sink their teeth into raw flesh as the other animals could. And truly as a part of evolution, our incisors have shrunk in size as well as sharpness. Basically the set of teeth we posses are more suited to have vegetables than meat.
As the days progressed and fire was discovered, humans could eat flesh too after cooking it, but primarily they were vegetarians who adapted to the environment, learning from the environment and animals around them.
Of late, the importance of vegetarianism has dawned on us as the world is heading towards a global food shortage. Our mistake was that to meet the meat eaters’ demands, large tracts of agricultural land were transformed into grazing fields for livestock and cattle that would later become a part of our meals. This was a mistake and it is quite late before it had been finally realized. Vegetarianism on the other hand promotes the growth of greens around us, giving us ample amount of food to consume as well as to live healthy and happy!
What is a Core Food?
A core food is basically a division of food that benefits the consumer the most in terms of health purely. It is now a known fact that the more leafy greens we consume, the lesser we are at a risk of cardiovascular diseases and other lifestyle diseases. Leafy greens allow the body to breathe by de-clogging the digestive system, aids in vitamin and mineral absorption by the body and also keeps obesity at bay. Not to mention the beautiful, natural skin you get when you consume vegetables as a core food. Having green vegetables as a core food certainly does not mean that you have to become a hardcore vegetarian; but instead increase the amount of vegetable intake in your daily diet.
Leafy Greens that you MUST HAVE!
Leafy green help your metabolism and body growth at the same time balancing the flow of hormones in the human body. Leafy greens are a rich source of iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, etc. which are important in maintaining the electrolytic balance in our body. Leafy vegetables have a lot of essential vitamins and minerals that certainly aid to the overall development of body. One important research found out that people who consumed more greens were at a lesser risk of getting cancer or even heart-attack and lived longer and fresher than their meat-eating counterparts.
Those who had a balanced diet with adequate amounts of all were the best of the lot with longer lives and slower aging. Some of the most important leafy greens that are a must have are – broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale, radish, carrot, spinach, summer crisp, endive amongst others. It could be well understood now that from where the famous spinach eating cartoon derives his strength from! In case you want a great life, you should include most of the leafy greens mentioned here, if not all!

Great article; however, the link above to http://www.rawdiet.com is broken.
Nice post. I really appreciate the content since I’m a veggie. Must read article. Thanks!
Thanks for pointing that out Dan. I have fixed the broken link now so it should be working.
Pictured greens courtesy of the Lakewood, Colorado Vitamin Cottage dumpster! If you’re concerned about the sustainability of our food systems, I highly recommend the short film Dive!. Half the food produced in the US is sent to landfills.
Thanks for the link (and the photo
)Zane. It looks like an interesting movie and hopefully the DVD will come out soon.
Thanks for the info, i am a big time learner of health foods and healthy living lifestyle. It’s good to find out that greens are the ultimate superfoods that one could have for better physical and mental health.
It’s good to see someone else who thinks like I do. With so much ignorance in the world these days it’s nice to know there’s someone out there who isn’t an idiot.
