You might agree on an intellectual level that eating raw foods is a good idea. But does the thought of abandoning your favorite foods seem like more than you can manage right now?
So don’t! That’s the surest way to guarantee you won’t succeed on the raw food diet in the long term.
The best way to get started on the raw food diet is to not approach it in terms of taking anything away. Instead try adding in some new delicious raw foods.
If you add in more raw fruits and vegetables to your diet you won’t be as hungry and when you’re not hungry, you are much less likely to fall prey to impulsive eating.
If you want that pizza, or even a piece of chocolate cake, plan for it and enjoy it. Once you start eating raw foods though, and notice how good you feel on them and how much more energy you have, your previous favorite cooked foods will start to lose their former appeal.
You do want to be sure though, that you’re getting enough of the right kinds of nutrition. You need to make sure that you have a balanced intake of a variety of nutritious raw foods. Fruit is good for you, but it’s not enough. You also need to eat your greens, nuts and seeds.
You’ll need to do a little research into which raw foods will supply you with all the nutrients you need. Raw food eating is intended to nourish your body in a completely different way, but just eating raw foods isn’t enough. You want to do this so that you can find more balance in your life, and in order to achieve this you will need to balance the raw foods you’re eating for proper nutrition.
One way to boost and vary your nutritional intake is to incorporate a new fruit or vegetable every week. Try something that you have never tasted before like cherimoya, persimmon or rainbow chard.
When you explore new foods you will find a whole new world of tastes and textures open up to you. You will start to gravitate more and more towards eating raw foods and very soon you will find that you actually prefer eating raw foods. I guarantee it.
